The Tao of the Waves
The Tao of the Waves
The beautiful thing about winter is all the unexpected visitors I get. As I shed some of the "busy-ness" and anxiety of my main work year and distill down to a quiet and creative essence that carries me through the winter months, my mind becomes open to inspiration and I really never know where it is going to come from or what form it is going to take. This holiday season down time, I've been working on something in the style of the old masters.
This has challenged me in a number of the techniques I'm experimenting with, and it's been so fun to see it all come together. The final product (which is currently at the framer’s) is my take on an 18th-century composition that has been popular through the ages - Crane and Waves. you may have seen any number of iterations of it yourselves.
While contemplating it, I find myself spontaneously tapping in to feelings of vastness, searching, and higher perspectives. So I've paired it with a Chinese proverb that resonates strongly with me because it's the calling card of all seekers: "The Sea of Knowledge Has No Horizon." May we all be cognizant of the invitation that that extends. And may we always be able to accept it with grateful heart.
Wonderful statement piece that deserves pride of place in home or office. Would also make a deeply meaningful gift for teachers, professors, life-long learners, and anyone going through big change (move, new job, new business, divorce, death, bereavement - as these, too, have their lessons to share if we open our hearts to receive them).
This piece will be framed and available for purchase at Whole Life Health Care in Newington, NH by mid-January. However, if you can’t make it there, get one for yourself right here. Each one will be hand-painted to order on elegant, herbal gray/green, gold-fleck shuen paper, and will come backed, rolled, and ready to be mounted (on foam core) and framed by the customer. Measures roughly 26 x 26 in, unframed.
